In all honesty, it was me. I ordered four desserts. They were ’to share’, but let’s face it. I ate most of them. I still dream about them.
The bakery was colourful and cosy, as soon as we stepped in the door, we saw charming, British nicknacks nestled amongst the backdrop of a chic French café. But the patisserie, I no joke, they were more than delicious. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that, in my humble opinion, these were probably the top desserts I’ve had anywhere in the UK. I know that’s a huge claim, but I immensely enjoyed every bite.
It was a completely spur of the moment visit. My very obliging friend, Nailah, had met me for a long-overdue catch-up dinner in Leicester Square and after a meal, that was extremely lacking, we decided to walk and talk. We ended up strolling through Covent Garden. Deciding that we needed something sweet, we Googled (is Googled officially a verb now? Oh well). Some questionable results came up, but Brigit’s Bakery stood out with great reviews and good-looking treats.
It was a few days before Christmas (all those that know me know I get way too excited around that time of year! Yes, it’s the end of February and I still have my Christmas tree up. Give you proof, you say…?…) and the bakery had added some festive decoration to it’s year-round charm. The experience was thoroughly enjoyable and we sat there for a good few hours enjoying a raspberry and pistachio tart, a lemon meringue, a salted caramel tart and a Royale, which was a chocolate-layered-ganache-moussey-affair. All the flavours were perfectly balanced and the tart pastry was just perfection.
So, who wants to take me back there?!
